Luva Acker

January 17, 1917 — October 27, 2009

Luva Mae Acker, age 92, of Mooreland, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born January 17, 1917 in Mooreland, a daughter of the late William C. and Hazel Leone (Miller) Thornburgh.

A 1936 graduate of Mooreland High School, she was a life-long member of the South Christian Church in Mooreland, and was also a member of the Ladies Aide at the church. She was a licensed beautician, and enjoyed doing hair for shut-ins and friends in nursing facilities over the years. Luva was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and was known as a “people person” who loved social events and living life with a smile. She also enjoyed the outdoors and caring for her flowers.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Betty Linville of Mooreland and Pam Cross and her husband, Alan Cross of Mooreland; two grandchildren, Lori Clone and her husband Greg of Mooreland, and Brad Linville and his wife, Andrea of Elburn, IL; seven great grandchildren, Bryce, Brandon, and MacKenzie Linville, Drew and Eric Teague, and Bobby and Timmy Clone; a niece, Barbara Arford of New Castle and a nephew, Ronald Thornburgh of Mt. Summit; several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Acker, whom she married on June 12, 1937; two sisters, Vada Thornburgh and Gladys Thornburgh; two brothers, Dale and Lee Thornburgh; and a son-in-law, Don Linville.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 2, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, November 1, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Mooreland Volunteer Fire Department with envelopes available at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hinsey-brown.com .
