Margie Nell Thurston

Margie Nell Thurston, 88, of New Castle went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 18, 2025 at The Waters of New Castle. She was born August 31, 1936 in Clinton County, Kentucky to the late William Mathew and Zelma (Vitatoe) Thurston.

Margie lived her life for the Lord. She had a servant’s heart and served in many ways. Church was her life and she was a mentor to several generations of children over the years. Margie had taught Sunday School for over 30 years and was a member of The Sanctuary of New Castle. She also loved playing the accordion and piano. Another way she enjoyed serving was with the Foster Grandparent program. She loved helping children and mentoring them. She retired from Jefferson Smurfit Paper Mill following many years of service. Margie loved the color red and a cold vanilla Diet Coke. In her spare time, she enjoyed coloring in adult coloring books.

She is survived by her siblings, Brenda (Mike) Westerfield, Bill Thurston, Joanne (Robert) Kettler and Terry (Sue) Thurston; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Lynn Vitatoe; sister-in-law, Barbara Thurston; niece, Anissa Matthews and a great great nephew, Remington Stockdale.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2025 at The Sanctuary of New Castle, 2208 Broad Street New Castle, IN, with Pastor Jeff Jaco officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church.
