Maridene Adams, age 65, of New Castle, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born June 20, 1949 in Henry County to the late Robert Wyatt Crandall and Wilma Jeanette (Edwards) Crandall Ashby.
She graduated from Walter P. Chrysler Memorial High School in 1967 and Indiana Business College in 1969. She married Dennis O. Adams in 1971. Maridene sold programs at Anderson Speedway for 13 years and was den mother for Scouts for several years. She was Past Supreme Representative of the Pythian Sisters. She earned the title of Past Grand Chief in 1994 where she was Grand Secretary for 10 years. She portrayed Mrs. Claus for over 25 years with her husband Denny. She was a very active member at Sulphur Springs Christian Church, where she was on the hospitality committee, VBS, and the library team. She loved to do counted cross stitch, sew, read, can food from the garden, care for flowers, and baby sit for her grandchildren and extended family.
As a last gift to mankind, Maridene chose to make a corneal donation, God’s gift of sight.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Denny O. Adams of New Castle; three children, Jodi (Keith) Goff, Chris (Companion, Michelle) Adams both of New Castle and Jessica (Kyle) Larson of Middletown; two grandchildren, Paige and Parker Larson; two step brothers, Larry (Becky) Ashby and Tony (Jennifer) Ashby; a step sister, Patti McAtee; father and mother-in-law, Jess (Margaret) Adams of New Castle; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and lots of special friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Bobby Crandall; step father, Albert Ashby; and several aunts and uncles.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor C. J. Buskirk officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 5 – 9 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. There will be a Pythian Sister memorial service held at 7 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sulphur Springs Christian Church Ministry Expansion Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home.
