Marilyn Sue Thompson, 79, passed away peacefully after a brief illness Sunday, December 29, 2012.
Born November 27, 1933, in Henry County, IN, she excelled in school, participating in Indiana Girls' State and winning national recognition for her writing ability. She was awarded a full scholarship to DePauw University for Journalism, but studied at both Butler and Purdue Universities. Later, she worked as Trust Officer at Cheyenne National Bank in Wyoming and managed logistics for Winkler Flexible Products in New Castle, IN. She was an avid reader and loved baking and gardening.
Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her grandparents Rollie and Nina Mae Sipe of New Castle, IN; father and mother Fred and Feryl Goar of New Castle, IN; her previous husband, John J. Dubinger, of Pittsburgh, PA and his mother, Adaline M. Dubinger, also from Pittsburgh; and daughter Deanne M. Dukes of Findlay, OH.
She is survived by her husband, Lt. Col. George C. Thompson (Ret.); sister Carol Goar Wyllie of Salem, IN; children Feryl L. York of Georgetown, KY, and Fred J. Dubinger (wife Angela) of New Castle, IN; stepchildren Carol Ann Tooley (husband Rob) of Albuquerque, NM, George C. Thompson, Jr. (wife Ann) of Tacoma, WA, and Susan (husband Glen) Tallman of Tacoma, WA; grandchildren Michael R. York and Meghan R. Dubinger; step-grandchildren Elizabeth, Kristin and Jennifer Tooley; Katelyn, Courtney and George Thompson; Kimberly and Dave Carlsen; and step-great grandchild Mackenzie Tooley.
Marilyn was grateful for the care and friendship of the Thompson family and wished their loving efforts to be noted. Indeed, their happy companionship and tireless assistance made Marilyn's life in Tacoma richer and less complicated as her needs increased over the final years of her life.
A private memorial service was held at Skyline Presbyterian Church in Tacoma on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at 1:00 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Home on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. Friends may call from 2:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
