Marilynn Horak

Marilynn Horak, 80, of New Castle passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Glen Oaks Health. She was born on August 2, 1944, in New Castle to the late Edgar C. and Hazel D. (Kitchen) Thompson.

She was a 1962 graduate of New Castle High School and went on to earn her PhD from Ball State University. Marilynn was the Assistant Superintendent of Special Education for New Castle School System and retired after 30 plus years of service. She loved gardening, making flower arrangements and spending time with her family.

Marilynn is survived by her son, Aaron Horak; granddaughters, Ellianna and Emily Horak; 2 great grandsons; sisters, Janet Holland of Versailles and Sonja P. (Mike) New of California; sister-in-law, Joyce Thompson; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents Marilynn was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Horak; brothers, Robert Thompson, Paul Thompson and Ron Thompson; sister, Jean Norris; niece, Rhonda Weesner; nephew, David Thompson and brother-in-law, Mark Holland and Bud Norris.

Services will be on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of service. A private burial will take place at Batson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Batson Cemetery Association c/o Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service 3406 s. Memorial Dr. New Castle, IN 47362.
