Marion Eugene Courtney, 87, Pendleton, was welcomed into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, May 22, 2023. He was born October 13, 1935 in New Castle, to Paul and Frances Courtney. A 1953 graduate of Mooreland High School, Marion married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Fleming on August 20th of the same year. They were married 41 years until her death in 1995. Marion shared the final 26 years of his journey married to Judith Sorrels. He was a problem solver and could fix anything. Spending time with family, travel, farming and wood working were highlights of his life.
He was a servant and leader of First Christian Church in Mooreland. Marion took three mission trips to Haiti. He was a Gideon and a founding member of Blue River Valley Optimist Club. Marion worked at Chrysler, and after 33 years retired as a Maintenance Planner in 1997.
Marion is survived by his wife, Judith Courtney; his son Tim (Kathy) Courtney, Fishers IN; his daughter Janna (Tim) McCan, Ft. Myers FL; daughter-in-law Stacey Courtney, New Castle IN; two step-sons Steve (Caryn) Sundling, Carmel IN; and AJ (Jenny) Sundling, Carmel IN. His grandchildren are: Ashley (Chris) Tyler, Chad Courtney, Eric Courtney, Katie (Aaron) Walker, T.J. (Justin) McCan, Timothy (Nora) Courtney, Derek McCan and six step-grandchildren Marlee and Madison, Max (Ruthie) Truelove, Charlie (Mackenzie) Truelove, Joe and Julia Sundling. He loved his six great-grandchildren Matthew and Nicholas Courtney, McKenna Courtney, Caroline and Scotty Walker, Trey Courtney and three step-great grandchildren Basil, Junie and Rowan Truelove.
He is preceded in death by Carolyn (wife); Mike Courtney (son), Ryan Courtney (grandson), Jill Carlson (daughter), his parents, and Larry Courtney (brother).
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, New Castle. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until time of service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Association.
