Marlene Elizabeth Crabtree

Marlene Elizabeth (Aichorn) Crabtree, age 93, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024 in New Castle, Indiana where she resided for 42 years. 

She was born to Arthur and Sylvia Madge Aichorn of Indianapolis on June 9, 1931. They preceded her in death, as did her sister Barbara. Mrs. Crabtree is survived by her husband of 42 years, Logan Crabtree.

She graduated from Warren Central High School in Indianapolis and attended Indiana Central College (now the University of Indianapolis). Known for having a head for numbers and a kind heart for people, she worked for many years in accounting for Greenwood National Bank and Ransburg in Indianapolis and, later, for the city of New Castle as a credit manager. She and her husband owned and operated Logan’s Country Carpet for 15 years before retirement. 

Mrs. Crabtree also is survived by three children from a previous marriage to David E. Ingmire. They are Susan Ingmire (Lynn Hailey), of Cincinnati, OH, Steven Ingmire (Linda), of Indianapolis and Jeff Ingmire (Barbara), of Kirkland, WA; also, Jeff Crabtree (Donna), of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Scott Crabtree (Anita), of Opps, AL, and Dale Ray Crabtree of Fort Wayne, IN. She had 10 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. In addition to her family who loved her dearly, she had a close circle of friends who enriched her life in countless ways.

Marlene was a longtime member of First Assembly of God in New Castle. She was a dedicated volunteer at the church food pantry for many years until she retired at age 90. In recent months she enjoyed playing cards with friends at Forest Ridge where she and Logan have resided since early this year.

Her family wishes to thank the physicians and staff at Henry County Hospital, including the hospice and palliative care teams, and the staff and residents of Forest Ridge for their good care and many kindnesses.

Visitation will be held from 11 am to 1:30 pm on Monday, January 6 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. The service will begin at 1:30 pm followed by the burial at South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Pastors Matt Malek and Steve Gallaway will be officiating. A reception will begin at First Assembly of God Church at approximately 3 pm.
