Marlyn Sue Johnston, 76, of rural New Castle went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at her home following a brief illness. She was born April 2, 1947 in Keno, KY, a daughter of the late Gilbert and Gertie (Taylor) Wilson.
Sue graduated from Burnside High School in Burnside, KY in 1966. She had worked at Modernfold, Metaldyne, and Walmart in New Castle. She was a longtime and active member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church in New Castle, which she loved, as she loved her “home church” in Keno, KY, Mt. Union Baptist Church.
Everyone who had the privilege of knowing Sue, knew that she was a very hard worker, generous, and loved her homeplace in Keno, KY. She enjoyed traveling with family, singing, working outdoors, decorating for Christmas, quilting, and was the best Mamaw ever!
She leaves to cherish her memory, her two children, James G. (Sherrell) Johnston of New Castle, and Tonya L. (Scott) Thompson of New Castle; two grandchildren, Bryce and Brayden Thompson of New Castle, step grandchildren, Shannon (Stephanie) Fields of Muncie, and their children, Peyton and Alexis Fields, and Shasta (Marvin) Williams and their children, Savannah and Griffin Williams of Yorktown; four sisters, Jean Dobbs of New Castle, Faye Daily of Ft. Wayne, Joyce (A.J.) Davis of New Castle, and Brenda (Jerry) Phelps of Bronston, KY; one brother, Jimmy (Janie) Wilson of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest E. Johnston in 2001; a granddaughter, Karrena Johnston in 2018; two sisters, Mallie Kidd and Juanita Wilson; and four brothers, Arthur Wilson, William Wilson, James Tommy Wilson, and Virgil Lee Wilson.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Charles Dugger and Tony Piper officiating. Burial will follow in Mt.
