Martha Elizabeth Martin

October 11, 1925 — February 23, 2011

Martha Elizabeth Martin, 85, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Sarasota Memorial Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born October 11, 1925 in Springport, IN the daughter of Herbert L. and Ethel (Nay) Hayes. Her sister Gertrude Ertel and her first husband Don Martin predeceased her.

Martha graduated from Mt. Summit High School in 1943. She worked for Sears from 1962 until 1989, first in sales and later in the credit and internal audit departments. She has been a member of the Springport Christian Church since April 13, 1938 where she served as church pianist for many years and was a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She was also a member of a special club since 8th grade called DD’s (Dopey Damsels).

She is survived by her husband Frank Zier of Sarasota, FL; daughter Jeanne Martin (Corby Somerville) of Sequim, WA; two sons Jack Martin (Darlene) of Straughn, IN and Joe Martin (Debbie) of Ruckersville, VA; eight grandchildren: Darin, Donny, Rusty, Sherry Lynn, Jennifer, Jeremy, Jason and Justin Martin and 10 great grandchildren.

In their lives together Martha and Frank enjoyed traveling, dancing, walking on the jetty and socializing with friends.

A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Springport Christian Church with Reverend Rick Fennell officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Christian Cemetery in Sprigport. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
