Martha "Marty" Brown

Martha “Marty” Brown, 92, of Hagerstown passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2024 surrounded by her loving family at Addison Place in New Castle. She was born January 27, 1932 in New Castle to the late Russell and Fern (Wisehart) Foulke.

Marty attended Millville School where she was one of the first female basketball players on the boys team, as no girls team yet existed. She later graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1950. Marty was proud to serve as Secretary/Treasurer for Brick Church Cemetery Association from 1974 until 2020 where she was still currently a Board member. She was a supportive wife to her husband Dicky Brown, a U.S. Air Force Veteran. She was exceedingly patriotic and cherished meeting veterans and their spouses. She was a passionate member of the Hagerstown Post #333 American Legion Auxiliary and past president of the Millville Ladies Aid. Marty treasured each member of her family and was always involved in their lives. In her free time, she could be found starting a new puzzle, playing cards (usually Euchre,) or with her nose buried in a book.

She is survived by her children: Rick Hilbert, Mark (Brenda) Brown and Becky (Richard) Bell; grandchildren, Derek Hilbert, Kevin Hilbert, Tyson (Taylor) Brown, Jacob (Shelbi) Brown and Russell Brown; great grandchildren, Skyla, Ruthie, Mia, Chevi and William “Liam”; special nieces, Kay and Jennifer Hancock.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Dicky Brown; siblings, Don Foulke, Betty Fox and Jim Foulke.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation to the dedication of Amedisys Hospice, Addison Place, Ruby Moistner, and Deb Placios for their care in Marty’s final days.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow at Brick Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
