Martha Quinton

Martha Jane Mark Quinton, 94, of New Castle, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at The Waters of New Castle. She was born February 19, 1919 in Rosemont, PA in a house owned by her father’s employer, the Converses. She was baptized at home through Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church.

“Jennie” graduated from Radnor High School and was a very active alumnus in the planning of their reunions. She was a 1938 graduate of the Taylor Business School of PA. “Jennie” was Executive Secretary to the President of Gerstly Sunstein and later in the same role to the President of Melmark Home for Retarded Children and Adults in Berwyn, PA.

She and her husband Earl Robert Quinton of Rushville, IN met at a square dance at the USO in Philadelphia and were married November 23, 1946 at the Radnor Methodist Church in Garrett Hill, PA. She and “Bob” became quite active in square dancing and DELCO, a young adult Methodist Church group in the Delaware, PA county area. They were always active in church activities throughout their entire married life being youth club leaders at Ardmore, PA Methodist Church and she as an elder in the Wayne Presbyterian Church in PA. In 2000 they moved to her husband’s home state of Indiana where they became active in the Smyrna Baptist Church of Spiceland, IN.

She is survived by her niece: Suzanne Mark of Silver Springs, MD; 3 brothers-in-law: Don (Velma) Quinton of Muncie, Everett (Anita) Quinton of Laurel, IN, and Richard (Shirley) Quinton of Shell Lake, WI; sister-in-law: May (Robert) Thurman of Hayward, CA; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Earl in 2009 and a brother: James Mark.

Services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Larry Delon officiating. Burial will follow in East Hill Cemetery in Rushville.
