Mary E. Atkinson

Mary E. (Stinson) Atkinson, age 88, a resident of New Castle, passed away Monday, September 14, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospital. She was born February 23, 1927 in McCreary County, Kentucky to the late Onzie and Lula (Hall) Stinson.

She retired from Delco Remy, in Anderson in 1990 following 37 years of service. She was a member of Foursquare Gospel Church where she had sung in the choir. Mary enjoyed flowers, gardening, horseback riding, and bird watching. She volunteered at the Indianapolis Zoo, and carried mail on horseback in Kentucky at age 16.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Leland T. Atkinson; a daughter, Donna (Mike) McLaughlin of Muncie; a son, Bruce (Kim) Atkinson of New Castle; a brother, Arnold (Dean) Stinson of Brown County, IN and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Atkinson; a sister, Jewell (Ray) Williams and a brother, Bill Stinson wife, Della.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Foursquare Gospel Church with Reverends Jim Becker, Greg Everson and Shelly Dennis officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle and one hour prior to the service at the church.
