Mary Eva Brown

March 15, 1925 — October 3, 2013

Mary Eva Brown, 88, of New Castle, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Glen Oaks Health Campus following a brief illness. She was born March 15, 1925 in Clinton County, KY, a daughter of the late Almer Ryan and Susan (Farmer) Butler.

A homemaker, she was previously employed at Crockett's Restaurant in New Castle and Brook's Foods in Mt. Summit. She filled her role as a pastor's wife well, as her husband, Rev. Otto C. Brown, pastored the Church of Christ in Christian Union in New Castle for many years, where she had served as song leader and secretary/treasurer. They had previously pastored Community Chapel in New Castle and two Bible Methodist churches in Kentucky before moving to New Castle in 1953. Eva's southern cooking was her specialty and was enjoyed by many over the years. She enjoyed family gatherings, and being with people in general. Known as a very jovial person, she enjoyed laughing, singing, and working in her yard. Her greatest joys on this earth were serving the Lord, being a wife to her husband, and a mother to her children.

She leaves to cherish her memory, seven children, E. Dwain (Anna Ruth) Brown of New Castle, Marilyn Frances (Ted) Garner of Mooreland, Jerry K. (June) Brown of Frostproof, FL, Johnnie E. (Beth) Brown of New Castle, Martha G. (Steve) Hall of Spiceland, Norma J. (Scott) Warnes of Springport, and Patty L. Daffron of Chocowinity, NC; seventeen grandchildren, Veronica (Doug) Jackson of Pegram, TN, David (Marcella) Brown, Kevin (Cindy) Brown, and Andy Brown, all of New Castle, Kim (Dan) Morgeson of New Castle, Anita Parrish (Patrick Pauge) of Kokomo, Wayne Pennycuff of New Castle, Ted Garner Jr. of Mooreland, Brian (Trisha) Brown, and Holly (Doug) Pierce, both of New Castle, Johnnie Darling of New Castle, Rachael (Aaron) Green of Lancaster, OH, Steven Hall of Indianapolis, Matthew (Christy) Castellon of Muncie, and Micah Castellon (fiancé, Jerrett Jackson) of New Castle, Brandy Daffron and T.J. Daffron, both of Ellettsville; three step-grandchildren, Krista Dubinger of New Castle, James (Tiffany) Warnes of FL, and Melissa Warnes of Parker City. Also, 26 great grandchildren; ten step-great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren survive; brother-in-law, Wallace McFarland of Russell Springs, KY; Several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Rev. Otto C. Brown in 2005; three sisters, Bercie York, Anna Lou Steele, and Ruth Kinsey; two brothers, Willard Butler and Delmar "Shine" Butler; a great grandson, Casey Parrish; and a step-grandson, Chad Conner.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor George Hale officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2013 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
