Mary Brown

Mary L. Brown, age 92, of New Castle, passed away Friday, December 5, 2008 at The Waters of New Castle. She was born December 14, 1916 in Bloomington, Indiana to the late Ira and Bertha (Mann) Sandefer.

She retired from the State Hospital following 20 years of service.

Survivors include her daughter: Joyce (husband: Ellis) Atkinson of New Castle; a son: John Surber of Columbus, OH; grandchildren: Jerry Ellis (wife: Kim) Atkinson of Cambridge City, Larry Ray (wife: Greta) Atkinson of Greensburg, Gary Allen (wife: Michelle) Atkinson of Wabash; great grandchildren: Jason Lee (wife: Wendy) Atkinson of Lewisville, Kyle (wife: Stephanie) Atkinson of Noblesville, Keith (wife: Stacy) Atkinson of Bufford, SC, Matthew (wife: Tracy) Atkinson of Norfolk, VA, Michelle Atkinson of New Castle also Dustin, Valerie and Heather; great great grandchildren: Kaylee Shiana Atkinson of Lewisville, Elijha Scott Atkinson of Norfolk, VA and also Emily and Emerald Gundy; special friend: Richard Meier; one niece, one nephew and one sister-in-law.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband: Hershel Surber; second husband: James I. Brown; daughter: Joan Surber; sister: Iris Schultz; brother: Raymond Sandefer.

Graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2008 at South Mound Cemetery with Pastor Curt Shaw officiating. Friends may call from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
