Mary Lou Cox

Mary Lou Cox, 93, Lewisville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Glen Oaks Health Campus. She was born May 12, 1929 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Herman William and Norma Helen (Tyner) Johnson.

Mary Lou graduated from Lewisville High School in 1947. She was secretary at First National Bank and later to the plant engineer at Perfect Circle Corporation previous to graduating from Ball State University in 1965 with a Bachelors degree in Business Education. She taught business subjects at Knightstown High School and later was a social worker at the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Children’s Home for 14 years before becoming Dean of Girls until her retirement. She had served on the Lewisville Cemetery Board for several years and had attended First Christian Church in Cambridge City.

She was very active in the Indiana Federation of Women’s Club, having held office of the 6th District President. She was also a licensed real estate broker. She currently belongs to Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Sorosis Literary Club and has volunteered for over 20 years at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. She and her husband, Eddie had traveled extensively in the European Theater, along with Sweden, Norway, Japan, China and Mexico.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Tony E. (Karen) Cox of Springport; two grandchildren, Kyle Edward Cox and Caitlin Cox (Will Bruin); two great granddaughters, Kayleigh and Ellie Grace Cox and two great-grandsons, Liam and Coen; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 65 years, Edward E. Cox in 2015; two brothers, Wilfred Johnson and Wendell Johnson.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2022 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Pastor Larry Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Lewisville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. noon until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Lewisville Cemetery.
