Mary Ilene Curran

Mary Ilene Curran, age 83, of New Castle and formerly of Stillwater, Oklahoma, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, May 2, 2013, after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s disease in Muncie, Indiana. She was born Mary Ilene Baskerville on May 12, 1929 in Enid Oklahoma, the daughter of James Wesley and Mable Mary Baskerville.

She was the youngest of seven children and grew up in Fairview Oklahoma, and Hazlet and Pascal Saskatchewan. When some of her family lived in Stillwater Oklahoma briefly, she went to apply for a job as a maid in a local motel. Little did she know at the time, the owner, Weldon Curran would become her husband and love of her life for fifty two years. They would be married on February 19, 1961. She would come to know the Lord as her personal savior when she was 47. She was a member of First Baptist Church, in Stillwater Oklahoma. She was fond of travel, with her husband and son; they would travel through twenty one different states as well as three Canadian Provinces and parts of northern Mexico. She also loved to paint and would decorate their home with many beautiful paintings.

Survivors include her husband, Weldon Curran; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Merica Curran of New Castle; two grandchildren, Jimmy and Joshua Curran of New Castle; brother, George Baskerville and his wife Ruth of Arlington, TX; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ray (wife, Martha) Baskerville of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sisters, Sally (husband, Jim) Thorndale of Red Deer, Alberta, Eva (husband, Bern) Berg of Piers, Alberta, Noreen (husband, Gordy) Millard of Red Deer, Alberta and Lucille (husband, Andrew) Laroque of Sylvan Lake, Alberta.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Bob Schon officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2013 at the funeral home.
