Mary Bina Jessop

December 25, 1918 — December 17, 2011

Mary Bina Jessop, 92, of New Castle and formerly of Knightstown passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 11:11p.m. at Heritage House of New Castle. She passed away one week before her 93rd birthday. She was born December 25, 1918, in Asheville, NC to the late John Rucker and Dora Mae (Curtis) Murphy.

She was a graduate honor student from Hapeville, Georgia High School. After giving up a scholarship to college, she worked in the toy department, demonstrating toys in Atlanta’s largest toy department store. She went on to be a telephone operator in Atlanta before meeting and marrying her husband; Daniel Jessop Sr. with who she worked side by side in their businesses. They raised their family on the old “Camel” farm on U.S. 40 and later moved to the farm on Greensboro Pike. Moving to New Castle in the late 70’s, she owned and enjoyed her ceramic shop. Bina was a very giving woman, accomplished in many areas: gardening, flowers, crocheting, knitting, all crafts that would catch her eye. She loved helping others and was a member of several organizations including the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter # 116, White Shrine Chapter #14, and past member of Psi Iota Xi of Knightstown.

Mary is survived by her children: Daniel Jr. (wife: Deanna) Jessop, Janice (husband: Roger) Burton; seven grandchildren: Brent, Bradd (wife: Nicole), Benjamin (wife: Jennifer) and Bryce Burton, Troy (wife: Alba) Jessop, Lisa (husband: Paul) Ashby; twelve great grandchildren: Ariel Jessop, Tricia Jessop, Alec Jessop, Tyler Ashby, Caleb Ashby, Chase Burton, Braden Burton, Alexander Burton, Cyrus Burton, Robert and Aubrie Kincaid, and Jordan Burton.

She is preceded in death by her husband: Daniel Jessop; son: Richard Jessop ; and eight brothers and sisters.

Services will be 11:30 am Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Rev. Ryan McCarty officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 pm Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at the funeral home with Order of Eastern Star service beginning at 7:45pm. Memorial Contributions may be made to Downs Syndrome of Indiana (honor of Caleb Ashby), 2625 N. Meridian St. #49, Indianapolis, IN 46208 with envelopes available at the funeral home.
