Mary Helen Lee

November 17, 1943 — April 10, 2023

Mary Helen Lee, 79, of Muncie, joined loved ones in heaven on Monday, April 10, 2023. Helen passed away in West Virginia as she was traveling home from a wonderful beach vacation with her sisters.

She was born on November 17, 1943 in Duvall Valley, Kentucky to Jess and Mabel (Rigney) Duvall. She moved to the New Castle area in the early 1970s, and went on to marry her husband, Bill Lee.

Helen is survived by her grandchildren, Nicholas (Hilary) of Fishers, Indiana; Cassandra (Brendon) of De Pere, Wisconsin; and Brittany of Costa Mesa, California. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Haven Lynn, Lyla Marie, Jackson Terry, Greyson Kenneth and Camden Thomas. Other loved ones include daughter-in-law, Maxi, of Anderson. Helen is also survived by a brother, David (Phyllis) Logston of New Castle; and four sisters, Anna Lorene (Larry) Cox of New Castle, Geri (Jan) Kolodziej of New Castle, Gwen (Floyd) Cook of Cookville, Tennessee and Carolyn Stewart of North Carolina. In addition to her siblings, Helen is survived by many special nieces, nephews and cousins, who always knew her as “Aunt Helen”, or “Grandma Helen Lee”.

She is preceded in death by her sons, Terry and Ricky, her husband, Bill, and her parents. She is also preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Sidwell, Shirley Logston and Tammy Ferguson; brothers, Gary Dale Logston and Jim Duvall.

Her greatest achievement in life was being a mother and grandmother. Her son, Terry, was her whole world. She was so proud of the man she raised Terry to be. Her years as a grandmother and great-grandmother were incredibly special to her. Every Saturday, she took Nick, Cassandra and Brittany (and usually a cousin) out to lunch, bought them a toy (which they didn’t need) and set out on an adventure to the park, mini-golf, batting cages, movies and more. She often said those Saturdays with her grandkids were the happiest moments of her life. She attended an unbelievable number of baseball, softball and football games, dance recitals, school functions and more. Helen and her “road buddy”, Maxi, hit the highway and enjoyed special conversations together in car.

Helen worked at Unitog, also known as Cintas,in Muncie for many years, and had numerous friends. She was an avid (and very lucky) gambler who loved socializing with friends at the casino. She could play cards with the best, and at times, might have been known to use her extraordinary abilities to win (guys, she was a card shark). You could always count on her to be at every family cookout or dinner, with her stellar chicken noodles or strawberry shortcake. She enjoyed reality TV, seeing hummingbirds in her yard, laying in the sunshine to work on her tan and catching up with friends and family on the phone.
