Mary Lou Pendergraft

Mary Lou Pendergraft, 77, of New Castle passed away Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center. She was born July 29, 1939 in Lee County, Virginia to the late J.T. and Evelyn (Baker) Daugherty.

Mary was a teacher for over 35 years at Head Start where she loved teaching and being with the children. She was on the Indiana Governors Council for early childhood education and the PTA at Wilbur Wright Elementary School for many years. Mary was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, ADWA Raintree Chapter, Henry County Step Ahead and Henry County Child Abuse Prevention Council. She loved fishing, flowers, watching hummingbirds and spending time with her family.

Mary is survived by her husband of 51 years, Harold E. Pendergraft of New Castle; children, Randy (Carla) Pendergraft of Springfield, MO, Rick (Andrea) Pendergraft of Lake Worth, FL, Beth (Bob) Carroll of New Castle; Joe Couch of New Palestine; grandchildren, Shea Pendergraft of Springfield, MO, Kenny Pendergraft of Springdale, AR, Nicholas, Alexander, Brendan Pendergraft all of Lake Worth, FL, Heather Carroll, Bobby (Jhordan) Carroll both of New Castle; great grandchildren, Jaxon and Hunter Ellison, Bella Carroll; siblings, Ann (James “Tom”) Pendergraft of Connersville, Frankie McPherson of Jonesville, VA, Nina Quesenberry of Ben Hur, VA, Bill (Jennifer) Daugherty of Pennington Gap, VA; a special friend, Brenda Logan of New Castle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by a sister, Pat Pridemore.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow at Mt. Summit Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 15 and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Champions for Children, Mary L. Pendergraft Scholarship with envelopes available at the funeral home.
