Mary Ellen (Sharp) Pierce, 77, of New Castle went home to be with the Lord Friday, July 22, 2016 at her residence following a short and courageous battle with cancer. She was born February 20, 1939 in New Castle to the late Robert H. and Elnora (Fogle) Sharp.
Mary Ellen had worked at Wal-Mart in New Castle as a cashier for 15 years. She was active in helping her husband, Ronald with Shriners parades for many years. Among her many interests, she especially enjoyed bird watching, word search puzzles and loved family get-togethers.
Survivors include her husband of 28 years: Ronald H. Pierce; 4 children: Joyce Rose (Ferg) Stevens of Lewisville, Sheila Rose (David) Simpson of Rushville, Willie Jr. (Wanda) Rose of New Castle and David (Amy) Rose of Lewisville; 3 stepchildren: Mark Pierce, Terry Ann (Jan) Cochran and Connie Jackson, all of New Castle; 13 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Ruth Hudson and Donna (Mike) Hinsey, both of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by a son: Ronnie Bell; a grandson: Levi Rose; three brothers and two sisters.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Mark Herbkersman officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn addition. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service.
