Mary Kathryn Sparks Age 85, of Bloomfield, Indiana

Mary Kathryn Sparks, affectionately known as "Mammaw," passed away peacefully at her home in Bloomfield, surrounded by family, on Friday, April 18, 2025. Kathryn was born on January 19, 1940, in Greene County, Indiana, to Charles Russel Workman and Lorene Ida Hayes (Workman). She attended Solsberry High School and later graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1957. Kathryn retired as a secretary from Indiana University after approximately 34 years of dedicated service.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Gerald Workman and Wayne Workman; and her beloved husband of 63 years, Carl Sparks.

Kathryn is survived by her sisters-in-law: Ethelene Workman, Norma Graebe, and Carol (Barney) Tow; her two daughters: Kathy Jo (Richard) Hakeem and Carla (Aaron) Quakenbush; four granddaughters: Heather (Robert) Emminger, Stephanie (Alex) Clary, Amber (Josh) Harding, and Courtney (Jacob) Williams; three step-grandchildren: Adam (Miranda) Quakenbush, Madison Quakenbush, and Josie Quakenbush; as well as eight great-grandchildren.

Kathryn married Carl Sparks on November 5, 1960. Together, they shared a full and joyful life, watching their grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and play, camping with the Traveling Turtles camping club, and spending winters in Florida.

Her greatest desire was for her entire family to be saved and to live a Christian life.

Services will be held at 3:00pm Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at Cincinnati Christian Church, 11432 E St. Rd. 54 Bloomfield, IN 47424. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until the time of service on Tuesday. You may express condolences or share memories of Kathryn at www.hinsey-brown.com.
