Mary Marie Wood

Mary Marie Wood, 81, of New Castle, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born March 12, 1930 in Pelham, North Carolina to the late William Henry and Ary Jane (Byrd) Billings.

She was a longtime member of the First Apostolic Church in New Castle and had worked at Ray’s Drive-In for several years, and then later worked at the Westminster Center and also the YMCA. She enjoyed family get-togethers, cookouts, and visiting with people in general. Her sweet and mild nature allowed her to make many friends over her lifetime. She also enjoyed working puzzles and playing games with her family.

Survivors include two daughters, Jana (husband, Michael) O’Connell of New Paris, IN and Margie H. Wood of New Castle; four sons, Clarence Wood, Jr. of New Castle, Joseph A. Wood of New Castle, William H. Wood of Indianapolis and James R. (wife, Kimberly) Wood of New Castle IN; eleven grandchildren, Bruce O’Connell, Josette Wood, Shane O’Connell, Angelique Wood, Cody Huweart, Kyle Wood, Ryan Huweart, Kory Wood, Ashley Blanton, Kaitlynn Wood, and Jerica C. Kidd; four great grandchildren, Alex Case, Samantha Case, Blake O’Connell, and Bo O’Connell; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Bertie Goldey and Grace J. Fairchild; three brothers, Talmadge Billings, Guy T. Billings, and Russell Billings.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor John D. Beck Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.
