Matha York, age 82, of New Castle, went to be with her husband, and the Lord Wednesday, July 14, 2010, with her family at her side. She was born March 31, 1928 in Clinton County (Albany) Kentucky, the daughter of the late Kelly and Laura (Johnson) Neal.
A resident of the New Castle area since 1943, she worked at Huntington Industries and Agape Learning Center. She was an active member of the Foursquare Gospel Church in New Castle for over 50 years where she worked in the preschool department and was a member of the UFW ladies group.
Survivors include her two daughters, Alice (husband, Jerry) Toller of Indianapolis and Myra Foster of New Castle and a son, Greg (wife, Terri) York of New Castle; eight grandchildren, Chris Jones, David Toller, Susan Longo, B.J. York, Kyle York, Danielle Groce, Julie and Jared Carter; eleven great grandchildren; a sister, Madge (husband, Earl) Surber of Springport and (like a brother) Everett Brown of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph York; sisters, Monti Lawless and Marie Moles; brothers, Oral Neal, Glenn Neal, Olan Neal, Orice Neal and Dean Neal.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Jim Becker officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 at the funeral home.
