Maurice “Jim” Lukens, 86, of Knightstown, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born August 27, 1933 in Indianapolis, the son of Maurice and Iva (Warrick) Lukens.
Jim graduated from High School in West Alexandria, OH and served the U.S. Army. He was self-employed with Lukens Trucking and Quality Hardwood Sales. He was co-owner of L&W Market and owned the Alhambra Theater and many rentals. Jim was a member of the Knightstown town board and was named Knightstown Citizen of the Year. He was also a member of the Knightstown American Legion Post #152, Optimist Club and a Boy Scott leader. He attended the Dunreith Christian Family Church.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Lukens; children, Danny (Audrey) Lukens, Lynette (Joe) McIntosh, Scott Lukens, David (Christina) Lukens, Jeff (Patty) Hochstedler, Kirk Hochstedler, Greg (Dana) Hochstedler and Pam Hochstedler; 18 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; siblings, Gloria Jean Thorpe, Mary Lou (Sam) Gray, Donna Kay Gaither, Linda (Ron) Gatewood and Lori Chew; sister-in-law, Charlotte Lukens; brother-in-law, Virgil McKee; Shirley Lukens; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Phil Lukens; sisters, Barbara McKee and Candy Lukens.
A Celebration of Life will be at 1 PM Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Quality Hardwoods, 38 W Grant Street, Knightstown, IN. Visitation will be from 11 AM – 1 PM. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel.
