Spiceland

Max L. Garner, 89, a resident of Spiceland passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at Henry Community Health. He was born September 22, 1934 in New Castle to the late Robert E. and Oma E. (Phipps) Garner.

Farming was Max’s passion and he farmed in Henry County for 42 years. He retired from Chrysler Corp in 1989 after 22 years of service. Previously, Max had worked at Perfect Circle Corp. for 11 years. He was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene where he was involved with the Joy Club. Max loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish Max’s memory include his wife of 37 years: Linda, whom he married July 25, 1987; four sons: Timothy L. Garner and Thomas “Jay” Garner, both of New Castle, Christopher E. (Claudia) Garner of Spiceland and John R. (Marilyn) Garner of Covington, IN; step-daughter: Lori (Vann) Spears of Norwood, NC; two sisters: Joyce Myers of Spiceland and Janice Estelle of New Castle; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Max was preceded in death by his first wife: Joyce Garner; a son: Jeffrey Garner; a brother: Troy Garner and a step-daughter: Elizabeth Lynn Stewart.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Jonathan Mogan and Pastor Jimmy Southerland officiating. Burial will follow in Circle Grove Cemetery, Spiceland with Pastor Gene Bennett officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until time of the service on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Church of the Nazarene, 1727 Grand Ave, New Castle, IN, 47362. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
