Melinda Sue Thompson, age 45, of Spiceland, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015 in Shelby County. She was born August 29, 1969 in New Castle, Indiana to Lewis and Patricia (Lee) Shelton.
A 1987 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School, she had worked at Draper, Inc. in Spiceland for 13 years. She was presently employed by the United States Postal Service as a rural carrier associate at the Greenfield Post Office for nearly 6 years. An avid animal lover, Melinda owned and operated English Acres, a dog grooming and kennel business. Melinda dearly loved her family and friends, and enjoyed spending time camping at the Ohio River. She was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her first grandchild in November.
Survivors include her husband, Steven Thompson of Spiceland, whom she married July 18, 1987; a son, Wyatt Thompson (finance, Lacey Gooden) of Spiceland; a daughter, Josie Thompson of Spiceland; mother and step-father, Pat Shelton and Pete Norris of New Castle; a sister, Kim Powell of Straughn; a brother, Louis (Geovanna) Shelton of New Castle; step-brother, Tracy Eli Shelton of Albany, KY; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins; her mother-in-law; Patty Thompson of Spiceland; sister-in-law, Brenda (Gary) Neal of Spiceland.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lewis Shelton and father-in-law, Hurchel Thompson.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with David Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens.
