Melissa Lea Sweeney, 41, a resident of Mooreland passed away unexpectedly Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Summit Lake State Park. She was born on August 17, 1982 in Homestead, Florida to Robert Sweeney and Michelle (Lundy) McCafferty.
Melissa worked for Walmart in the transportation department as a truck driver. Melissa loved her dogs, Bella and Melvin. She enjoyed the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, boating and swimming. Melissa had a great sense of humor and loved making others laugh.
Survivors include her wife: Karen Hamilton-Sweeney, whom she married October 31, 2014; mother, Michelle (Steve) McCafferty of Middletown; father, Robert Earl (Michelle) Sweeney of Florida; mother-in-law, Teresa Hamilton (Keith Wallen) of Muncie; step-son, Elijah Dixon of Mooreland; several aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members.
She is preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Wilma Martin and Edward Lundy; paternal grandmother, Jeanine Sweeney; and her father-in-law, Randy Hamilton.
A celebration of life for her family members will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted by Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service.
