Michael Gordon Dickerson

December 7, 1945 — December 28, 2014

Michael Gordon Dickerson, 69, of Spiceland passed away peacefully in his home Sunday, December 28, 2014. He was born December 7, 1945 in Albany, Kentucky, a son of the late Gordon and Alice Dickerson.

He was a graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School and United Electronics Institute in Louisville, Kentucky. He enlisted in the Army and served in the signal corp from 1966-1969, serving one year in Vietnam. He left the Army as a Specialist 5th Class. During his time in service he was a microwave communications instructor while stationed in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. Mike was an avid camper and fisherman, and enjoyed traveling with Rita - especially to Hawaii on their 30th Wedding Anniversary. Mike worked for Sears as an electronics technician for 30 years, retiring in 1999. Mike was a member of St. Anne Church where he was a eucharist minister and greeter. He also brought communion to shut-ins.

Mike is survived by his wife Rita, whom he met while in school in Louisville. They married on December 22, 1966. Together they had three children, each married - Todd Dickerson (wife Violet), RitaAnne Hartsock (husband John), and Cory Dickerson (wife Shannon). They have seven grandchildren - Ashley, Elizabeth, Meredith, Benjamin, Rachel, Rebecca and Allison. He is also survived by a sister Margaret Haley (husband Phil) and brother Stephen Dickerson (wife Laurie), as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank his caregivers, including Robin Scott, Chelsea Flora, Henry County Hospice Chaplain Gary Snowden, Hospice workers Rhonda, Crystal, Gina, Judy, Jim, Beth and Jason.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Alice Dickerson, and his in-laws J.T and Hester Mills.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Father Jeremy Gries and Chaplain Gary Snowden officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anne Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J.
