Michael "Mike" Jones

Michael "Mike" Jones, a devoted father, grandfather, and hardworking man, passed away peacefully on Sunday February 23, 2025 at the age of 74. Mike was born January 18, 1951 in New Castle, IN the son of the late Willard Jones and Wilma (Fannin) Laird.

Mike dedicated many years of his life to Warner Gear, where he worked tirelessly until his well-earned retirement in April of 2009 after 39 years of service. He also worked for Keihin in Greenfield for 7 years. A man of few words but deep sincerity, he found his greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether casting a line into the water at a fishing tournament or spending hours tinkering in his garage with anything mechanical and teaching mechanics to others, he embraced the quiet beauty of the world around him. Mike liked playing poker, watching Star Trek or Star Wars and talking politics, he was often considered the smartest person in the room. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving children, Stacy (John) Huffman of Dunreith and Alan Jones of New Castle; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Shelby (Michael) Hernandez and Layne Huffman of New Castle; sister, Jennifer (Donnie) Sweigart of New Castle; brother, Tony (Lisa) Jones of Mustang, OK. His steady presence and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Janet Jones; grandparents, Mom and Pop Fannin, brothers, Steve Jones and Chris Jones and step-father, Max Laird.

Visitation will be from 2 – 4 p.m. Thursday, February 27, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Brett Raines officiating with services being at 4:00 p.m. Burial will follow Friday, February 28th at 11:00 a.m. at South Mound Cemetery. Memorial contribution may be sent to the Steve Jones Kids Fishing for Life, Henry County Community Foundation.
