Mildred Mae McDonald, age 89, of Spiceland, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at her residence. She was born May 26, 1922 in Laurelville, Ohio to the late Clem and Carrie (Pritchard) Schwalbaugh.
Mildred had briefly worked at Firestone during WWII. Mildred was a loving mother and grandmother and babysat for numerous children. She loved her home, enjoyed gardening and cooking. Mildred could grow a garden and cook like nobody else.
Survivors include her daughter, Carrie Jane Rose of Spiceland; grandchildren, Lori Jane (husband, Mark) Pelfrey of New Castle, Betsy Ann Calland of New Castle, Susan McDonald (fiancé, Steve) of Phoenix, AZ, Robert Michael (wife, Mitzi) Rose of Carmel, and Dr. Stephen Lee (wife, Mindy) Rose of Middletown, WI; step grandson, Ernie (wife, Hazel) Campbell of AZ; great grandchildren, Randi, Blake, Ryan, Ian, Jake, Ben, Maggie, Griffin, and Garrett; step great grandchildren; Pat, Natalie, Wayne, and Dusty; sister, Shirley (husband, Bob) Smith of Adelphi, OH; daughter-in-law: Laura McDonald of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edmond McDonald; son, Thomas McDonald; stepson, Gilbert McDonald; step daughter, Naomi Hinkle; son-in-law, Bob Rose; two brothers, Clem Schwalbaugh, Jr. and Berman Schwalbaugh.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Jack Hannum officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.
