Mitchell D. Porter, 93, of Knightstown, passed away Friday, July 20, 2012 at his residence. He was born March 29, 1919 in Fairview, KS, the son of Omer and Alma (Brammer) Porter.
A veteran of the US Army, he proudly served during WWII. He retired from Delco Remy in Anderson in 1981 after 35 years of service. He owned and operated a chain saw sharpening business in his home for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 152, the VFW, and was active in the honor guard. He attended Faith Chapel Church in Knightstown. He loved fishing and photography. He was a devoted family man and also loved his community.
He is survived by one son: Ray (wife, Rebecca) Porter of Anderson; two daughters: Kathy (husband, Cecil) Powell of Arlington and Jeanine Porter McCullers of Knightstown; 10 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Marjorie Harvey of Anderson, Mayola (husband, Wilbur) Mitchell of Anderson and Viola Schaeffer of Knightstown; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mildred Pauline (Hamilton) Porter to whom he was married 62 ½ years; a daughter: Vickie McKinney; two brothers: Woodrow and Willard Porter.
Services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 152. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Monday.
