Mort Ralph “Jack†Armstrong, age 85, of New Castle, passed away unexpectedly at his home Thursday, March 19, 2009. He was born May 21, 1923 in Farmers, Kentucky to the late Homer and Gretna (Cogswell) Armstrong.
Jack was a member of South Memorial Drive Church of God and was a member of Karing Keenagers. He was a World War II veteran having served in Normandy (Battle of the Bulge), Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe and received five battle stars. He was a farmer for many years but retired from World Bestos Division of Firestone and later Citizens State Bank. He was a member of the American Legion and American Quarter Horse Association raising, training and showing quarter horses. He was a member of Henry County Saddle Club and former member of the Lions Club. He was a member of the American Kennel Club raising and selling AKC German Shepherds.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years Dorselma “Doris†Armstrong of New Castle; a daughter: Darlene Woods of Greenville, SC; a granddaughter: Dusty G. Woods; a grandson: Odie Cutter (wife: Erin) Woods; a great grandson: Cutter Jack Woods; a great granddaughter: Daisy James Woods all of Greenville, SC; a brother: Virgil (wife: Pat) Armstrong; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters; Mildred Cassity Shores, Lucille Armstrong and Sally McKenzie.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverends Harold Goodpaster and Chris Gammello officiating.
