Murrel Stewart, 91, of New Castle, passed away Saturday, January 28 2012 at Henry County Hospital. He was born August 22, 1920 in Poplarville, Kentucky, a son of the late Harry and Ottie (Hail) Stewart.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and served as a Master Sergeant during World War II. Murrel was a Journeyman welder and retired from Ingersoll Steel after 32 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, working on cars and shooting guns. Murrel was a very religious man who loved the Lord and his family.
Murrel was married to his wife, Christine (Ping) Stewart, for 64 years prior to her passing in 2002.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children: Dallas Stewart of Somerset, KY; Doris Marlow of Kokomo; Carol Neal of Livingston, TN; Glenda Stewart-Terry of New Castle; Brenda (husband: Stephen) Bowling-Morrow of Greenwood; a sister: Shelia (husband: Bill) Fatsey of Ohio; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and his caretaker: Jim Griffin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Christine (Ping) Stewart; a son: Leslie Harold Stewart; sister: Betty Lou Collins; brother: Howard Lee Stewart.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Reverend Paul Riddle officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the local American Legion and VFW.
