Nancy Jane Garrett

Nancy Jane Garrett, 73, of Knightstown, passed away Friday, December 13, 2019 at Hancock Regional Hospital. She was born April 30, 1946 in New Castle, the daughter of James and Betty (Mauck) Maxwell.

Nancy was a 1964 graduate of Knightstown High School and earned a BS in Education from Indiana State University. She taught Business Education at Shelbyville High School and Arlington High School. Nancy worked in the financial office at Purdue University and was a Comptroller for State Student Assistance Commission for 16 years. She also worked at Hoosier Park as a bartender for 10 years. She was active with the state Harness Racing Association and longtime fan of the Wright Brothers (Indiana’s Band) since the 70’s. While relaxing at home, she enjoyed watching the birds feeding from her picture window. Nancy was a member of Tri Kappa, treasurer of the Knightstown High School Alumni Association and participated in scholarship selection and presentation.

She is survived by her mother, Betty (Mauck) Maxwell of Greenfield; husband of 50 years, Jim Garrett of Knightstown; a brother, James F. “Jamie” (Nora) Maxwell of Knightstown; sister-in-law, Doris Garrett of Greenfield; nephews, Jeff and Tim Maxwell; nieces, Julie Graham and Tomi white.

She was preceded in death by her father, James E. Maxwell.
