Norma J. Chockley, 87, formerly of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, December 04, 2013 at Greenwood Meadows. She was born October 24, 1926 in Browning, IL the daughter of Edward Dewey and Muriel (Cox) Stambaugh.
Norma was a member of the Grace Bible Church and taught Sunday School for years at the Church of the Brethren. She also taught school in a one room school house. She was a member of a Home Ec Club and enjoyed cooking and helping with funeral dinners. She was an avid reader and gardener and loved to hunt mushrooms. She was a devoted wife and enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by a son: Richard Chockley of Browning, IL; two grandsons: Cory Chockley of Browning, IL and Todd (Mary) Chockley of Indianapolis; a granddaughter: Sarah (Chris) Province of Wabash; several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Verle Chockley; a son: Rodney Chockley; a grandson: Chris Chockley; a brother: Homer Stambaugh: and a sister and brother-in-law: Ruth and Collis Trone.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL with Pastor Kevin Owsley. Burial will follow in Browning Cemetery in Browning, IL. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday. You may express a condolence or share a memory of Norma at
