Norman E. Travis, 92, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Glen Oaks Health Campus. He was born July 3, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan to Elmer M. and Vera (Liebau) Travis.
Norman was a High School graduate from Detroit and was a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force from 1946-1949. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for a total of 9 years as well as being self-employed as an independent insurance agent for 27 years at N.E. “Norm” Travis Insurance. He was also a freelance writer and editor. Norman was also a Past Master of Millersville Masonic Lodge # 126 F. & A.M. Indianapolis, Indiana and a member of First Christian Church of Knightstown, Indiana.
Norman was interested in politics and even ran for local office in Indianapolis. He made friends wherever he went and has been described as a “piece of work”, “one of a kind”, and someone who “broke the mold.” He had a rather unique sense of humor bordering on sarcasm and old fashioned ribbing. Norman knew The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and without a doubt is dancing and worshipping Jesus in Heaven.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan K. (Larry) Ford; son, Michael T. (Yuly) Travis; son, Gregg R. (April) Travis; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Vera Liebau Travis; father Elmer Michael Travis; sister, Midge Niehus; and his wife Joanne Travis.
