Opal Ruth Dixon, 78, of New Castle went to be with the Lord Monday, October 17, 2011. She was born July 9, 1933 in Clinton County, Albany Kentucky to the late William Addison and Ruby Jewell (Hudson) Mills.
She lived in Albany, Kentucky until moving to New Castle where she is a member of the Grand Avenue Baptist Church. She was an avid quilt maker and made many quilts over the years. She was a homemaker and she loved spending time with family and friends. She had worked for J J New Berry’s and Citizens State Bank.
Survivors include three sisters, Ella Ferguson, Neldia Daniel and Lola (husband, Joe) Cross all of New Castle; four stepsons, Mike, Edward, Dale and Bobby Dixon; several step grandchildren; thirteen nieces and nephews, Mike Ferguson, Jeff (wife, LeAnn) Ferguson, Sharon Slover, Scarlet Daniel, Scott and Stacy Mills, Vickie (husband, Johnny) Clayborn, Tim (wife, Cathy) Rigney, Kathy Hurst, Bill Cross, Patricia Rigney, James (wife, Robin) Daniel, Debbie (husband, Tony) Roach; fourteen great nieces and nephews, Jessica (husband, Simon) Turton, Sarah and Gary Lee, Courtney and Travis Daniel, Jonathon and Kasandra Cross, Michael (wife, Shanda) Slover, Andy (wife, Kim) Hurst, Timothy Rigney Jr., Orie Roach, Pamela Sutton, Christy (husband, Jason) Hooper and Dorinda Mills; eleven great-great nieces and nephews, Derek, Darren and Laurissa Sutton, Masson and Morgan Slover, Dylan and Nathan Lowery, Isaac and Alysha Hurst, Sophie and Mason Mills.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vola G. Dickie Dixon in 2007; two brothers Samuel Mills and James Mills; a sister, Lucille Rigney.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Charles Dugger officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the funeral home.
