Opal M. Garner, 86, of New Castle passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2017 at her residence, following an extended illness. She was born January 28 1931 in Albany, Kentucky to the late Joseph Dewey and Mary (York) Cross.
Opal retired from the Knightstown Soldiers and Sailors Home after more than 30 years of service. She was a member of the Moose Lodge of New Castle, was an excellent cook and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Opal is survived by her three sons; Ted (Marilyn Frances) Garner of Mooreland; Jerry (Sheila) Garner of New Castle: Jeff ( Tammy) Garner of New Castle; a granddaughter, whom she raised, Amber (Ron) Perdue of New Castle; additional grandchildren, Angie Garner, Teddy Garner; Michelle Haskett; Lori Matthews, Tonya Cole, Kim Criswell, Shannon Horn, Devyn Garner, Christy Garner and Ashley Bowne. 16 great grandchildren and 10 great- great-grandchildren. Also, a brother, Eugene Cross of New Palestine, IN; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Miss Kitty.

Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Odell Garner; two sons, James E. and Cecil Garner; great granddaughter Carmella Garner; three sisters, Shelby Flowers; Rhodie Mullens; and Ilene Cross; and a brother J.D. Cross.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 4, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the funeral home. You may share a memory or condolence of Opal at
