Opal O. Vaught

Opal O. Vaught, 96, of New Castle died peacefully Friday, December 16, 2016 in her home. Opal was born September 27, 1920 in Farmers, KY a daughter of the late Luther Jackson and Elizabeth Choat McClurg.
A longtime New Castle resident, she had been employed at Worl’s Laundromat and the cafeteria in New Castle High School.
An inspiration to family and friends, Opal loved unconditionally and always had a smile and word of encouragement. She was a member of Southside Nazarene Church. She married Orville T. Vaught in 1938 and he preceded her in death in 1965, leaving her to grieve him and profess her undying love the rest of her long life. She was a joy to her three granddaughters, becoming “miss lady” to them as they played house.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, Orville, and Malcom McClurg; three sisters, Juanita Griffith, Hazel Floyd, and Ruth Vaught; many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Opal is survived by one sister, Iloma Joyce Lewis of Maineville, OH; two daughters, Sharon (Ron) Godsey of New Castle, Beverly Burgess of New Castle, with whom Opal made her home; three granddaughters, Jill Kay (Rich) Stephens and Julie (Dale) Byers all of New Castle, Lisa (Jim) Klanke of Lee’s Summit, MO; She was lovingly referred to as “great Opal” by her three great- grandsons, Josh(Melissa) and Jacob Stephens and Clint (companion: Christine) Byers all of New Castle; two great-granddaughters, Hannah and Hallie Klanke both of Lee’s Summit, MO; one great –great- grandson, Wyatt Stephens; step grandson, Gary (companion: Kristy) Godsey of Richmond. Besides family members, Opal had been lovingly cared for by Terry Asberry.
The family will greet friends from 11-1 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Services will begin at 1p.m. with Reverend Michael Dees officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be directed to the Henry County Humane Society or a charity benefiting children.
