Oppa Clege "O.C." Moore

November 14, 1932 — July 10, 2010

Oppa Clegg (O.C.) Moore, Jr., 77, of New Castle went to be with the Lord Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Middletown, after a period of declining health. He was born November 14, 1932 in Hickory, North Carolina, the son of O.C. Sr. and Beatrice (Walker) Moore. He attended Hickory schools, graduating in 1951, and served four years in the U.S. Navy.

He received degrees from Anderson College and Ball State University. He taught in the Anderson Schools before coming to New Castle as principal of Westwood School. He was also principal at Holland School. In 1975, he became Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education and served in that position until retirement in 1995.

He was a member of South Memorial Drive Church of God where he taught Sunday School and served on various boards. He had been active in community and charitable activities.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years: Pamela Gardiner Moore of New Castle; a sister-in-law: Elizabeth Moore of Clearwater Florida; five grandchildren; a nephew and two nieces.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother: Charles N. Moore, Sr.; a daughter: Lesli Moore; and a son: Eric Moore.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 at South Memorial Drive Church of God with Pastors Chris Gamello and Mark Martin officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, New Castle.
