Orsel Thomas Dudley

Orsel Thomas Dudley, 84, of Indianapolis, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2010 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis following an extended illness. He was born January 6, 1926 in Grydon, MI the son of the late Orsel Thomas and Catherine (Shelton) Dudley.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the European Theater during WWII where he was awarded two purple hearts. He retired from Cams, Inc. in Indianapolis in 1991 after about 40 years of service. He was former president of the Fairgrounds Little League in Indianapolis. An avid woodworker, he took pride in constructing memorial picture frames for Indiana police officers killed in the line of duty. He loved IU sports and was a Chicago Cubs fan. After leaving high school early to join the Army, he returned to graduate with the Lake Orion High School class of 2003.

He is survived by a son: Daniel T. (wife: Freda) Dudley of Knightstown; daughter-in-law: Carolyn M. Dudley of Indianapolis; three grandchildren: Thomas Kyle Dudley of Kettering, OH; Andrew Ryan Dudley of Frankfort, IN; Kelly Nichole Dudley of Knightstown; 4 great grandchildren and 1 honorary great granddaughter; three sisters: Frieda Bailey, Mariella Bailey and Phyllis Waterstradt all of MI; one brother: C. A. “Duke” Dudley of MI; several nieces and nephews; and good friend: Pat Sligar.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife: Betty Joyce (Gumfory) Dudley; a son: Lieutenant Gary Edward Dudley, with Indiana State Police; and two sisters: Willazine Sanchez and Esther Cloutier.

Services will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Ken Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Park East Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Wednesday, December 15, 2010.
