Owen Dale Brown, 89, currently of Tipton and formerly of Mooreland passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Tipton. He was born December 24, 1927 in Wayne County, Indiana a son of the late Archie E. and Edith (Luellen) Brown.
Owen was a 1945 graduate of Mooreland High School and was vice-president of his class. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Army and served during WWII. In 2015, Owen was part of Indy Honor Flight, a program that takes veterans to the WWII Monument in Washington, D.C. and honors their service to our country. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, receiving his 65 year pin in 2015. Owen was an active member of the Mooreland Cemetery Board for many years and caretaker of the cemetery. Owen and his wife, Rosalind, loved taking annual and sometimes biannual trips to Sioux Narrows, Ontario, Canada where they hunted and fished. They made these trips for 45 years. Owen also enjoyed soccer and 4-H through his grandkids.
Owen is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rosalind (McKinsey) Brown of Tipton; son, Stephen (Diana) Brown of Atlanta, IN; grandchildren, Erin (Nathan) Allen of Atlanta, IN, Trevor (Stephanie) Brown of Rochester, IN, Justin (Ashley) Brown of Monticello, IN; great grandchildren, Adeline, McKinsey, Eliza, Natalie Allen, Owen and Emerson Brown and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Owen was preceded in death by his brother, Gordon Brown; sisters, Alice Marie Griffin and Joy Lee Stout.
Services will be at 1:00p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Thomas H. Current officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the local American Legion/VFW and US Army. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7p.m. with Masonic Rites beginning at 6:30p.m at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Mooreland Cemetery Association.
