Patricia Ann (Doll) Wood, 80, of New Castle and formerly of Indianapolis, passed away at Henry Community Health on Saturday, September 17, 2022. She was born January 10, 1942, in Indianapolis, a daughter of the late Raymond and Sophia (Mrotek) Doll.
Pat graduated from Martinsville High School in 1959 and from the Marion County General School of Nursing in 1962. She worked for over 40 years as a Registered Nurse in the Indianapolis area. She found her true calling in life doing home hospice care during the last ten years of her career. She was passionate about providing care for her patients and their families.
She was known for her strong, sassy personality. It was this personality and spirit that allowed her to live her final years with dignity in the face of many health crises. She enjoyed cooking, Diet Coke on ice, playing Uno, watching The Godfather, and a good mystery, whether it be in a book, movie, or television.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Mark Wood of Indianapolis; her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa (Wood) Hua and David Hua of New Castle; three grandchildren, Rosie Hua of Muncie, Samuel Hua of Indianapolis, and Gabriel Hua of New Castle; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and best friend of over 60 years, Pat Shuffitt of Bloomington. She is also survived by Betsy, her faithful mobility scooter.
She met the love of her life, David Christian Wood, on a blind date in 1964. They married on May 29, 1965. He preceded her in death on March 21, 2021, after 55 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Judith Mahaffey, on May 24, 2019.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Davisson, Dr. Dreu Doerstler, and the many nurses, aides, and therapists who cared for our mother and grandmother during her stays at Henry Community Health, and Glen Oaks Health Campus.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m-11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
