Patrick A McAlister

Patrick A McAlister, 76, of Mt. Summit, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28, 2024. Born on January 24, 1948, in Muncie, Indiana, he was the son of the late W. Allphin and Rachel (Walters) McAlister. Patrick was a cherished companion, devoted father, son, and brother, and a source of strength and love to all who knew him.

A proud graduate of Blue River Valley High School in 1966, Patrick spent much of his life in Mt. Summit, Indiana. He furthered his education at Sam’s Institute of Technology in Indianapolis, where he honed the skills that would shape his future. He began his career at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, MO, before answering the call of duty when drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He served honorably in Germany, and upon returning home, Patrick pursued his true passion for engineering, building an impressive and respected career in the field. 

Patrick worked for more than 35 years at Henry County REMC, starting as a Lineman and rising through the ranks to become Operations Manager. His work ethic, leadership, and expertise were admired by his colleagues, who remember him not only as a skilled professional but also as a man of integrity and dedication. His contributions left an indelible mark on the community he served so faithfully.

Beyond his professional life, Patrick was a man of many talents and interests. He found joy in golf and woodworking, using his hands to craft beautiful furniture pieces for family and friends. He was known for his quiet strength, gentle spirit, and unwavering generosity, always ready to offer his support to anyone in need. His kindness and craftsmanship will be remembered in the lives of those he touched.

 Patrick is survived by his beloved companion of 47 years, Risa Jones of Mt. Summit; his daughter, Trisha (Shane) Newton of Black Mountain, NC; his sister, Mary L. (Bob) Rose of Anderson, IN; his brother, Michael B. (Michele) McAlister of Mt. Summit; and his treasured grandchildren, Serena Thurston of Raleigh, NC, and Ethan Thurston of Boone, NC. He is also remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews who were blessed by his presence in their lives.

 He is preceded in death by his parents, W. Allphin McAlister and Rachel L. (Walters) McAlister Sparks, along with his siblings, W. Allphin McAlister Jr., Gayle McAlister, and Richard W. McAlister.
