Paul Richard Cox

December 31, 1941 — June 13, 2012

Paul Richard Cox, 70, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at AMG Specialty Hospital in Muncie, after a long illness. He was born December 31, 1941, in New Castle, a son of Ezra and Ona (DeHart) Cox.

Richard retired from Chrysler Corporation in New Castle in December of 1998, and was also a member of UAW Local #371. He traveled with his sister for a year as she and her husband evangelized, accompanying them on the guitar. He was a life-long member of the First Apostolic Church in New Castle, where as an accomplished musician, played guitar for many years, and was known for emulating the “Chet Atkins” style.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 50 years, Nell (Hoots) Cox of New Castle, whom he married August 4, 1961; a son, Richard Alan Cox of Muncie; a daughter, Marlena G. (husband, Gary) Wray of New Castle; grandchildren, Brad McClurg, Krista (husband Chris) McClurg-Weidert, both of New Castle, Andrea (husband, Eric) Cox-Yelverton of Texarkana, AR, Ashley Cox, Zachary Cox, Logan Cox all of Muncie; great grandchildren, Garrett McClurg, of New Castle, Lincoln, Levi, Luke Yelverton all of Texarkana, AR, a great grandbaby due in December; his mother, Ona Cox of New Castle; a brother, Robert “Bob” (wife, Theresa) Cox of New Castle; a sister, Hilda Elkins of Barberton, OH; his in-laws, Wayman and Mary Hoots of New Castle; sister-in-law, Judy Hoots-Ping of New Castle; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ezra Cox in 1996; maternal grandparents, Daniel Boone and Anna DeHart; brother-in-law, Robert Elkins; paternal grandparents, Edward Cox and Mary Cox-Fannin.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012 at First Apostolic Church in New Castle, with Pastor John D. Beck Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Apostolic Church, 418 New York Ave., New Castle, IN 47362.
