Our father, Paul Lorenz, 98, born and raised in Indianapolis but the passed 35 years resided in Nashville, Indiana, passed away Friday, October 16, 2015. He was born November 26, 1916 in Indianapolis a son of the late Frederick G.and Bessie Lorenz.
Dad in his youth joined The Boy Scouts where he earned his Eagle Scout and later Silver Beaver award. After graduating from Shortridge High School he and his brother, Fred along with two close friends, journeyed to Montana where they spent the summer at a working ranch living a cowboy life style for three months. The very memorable experience in our dad’s life included wrangling cattle, horse back riding, camping and ranch chores. After returning from Montana our dad continued his interest in scouting and was the explorer scout leader. After gaining employment with Indiana Bell Telephone Company, he was drafted into the army during World War II. Other interest he and our mother pursued was membership in the Indiana Bell Rifle Club where they were both sharp shooters. After retirement, he and our mother moved to Nashville, Indiana. There he assisted with Gnaw Bone Camp that his brother owned. Dad was also known to the camper’s as “Uncle Paul” who was a great story teller. This experience at Gnaw Bone was as significant part of his life and brought him great pleasure. In his later year’s he spent time with a very dear friend, Charlotte Hamilton. Together for several years they enjoyed each other’s company and traveled throughout the U.S. with the Elderhostol organization.
Our father leaves behind a son, John S. Lorenz; a daughter, JoAnne L. McCurley; two sisters; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
A very special and loving thanks to our cousin, his niece, Alice Lorenz for being so consistently attentive and loving to our dad.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Ann and his brother, Fred Lorenz
