Philip Theodore "Ted" Applegate, age 86, of Spiceland, passed away Monday, December 9, 2013 at his residence. He was born April 15, 1927 in Spiceland, Indiana to the late Philip and Dorothy (Black) Applegate.
A 1945 graduate of Spiceland High School, he was a United States Army veteran from 1945-1946. He retired from Draper Shade and Screen in 1992 following 45 years of service. Betty and Philip married right after he came back from the Army. He was a lifelong member of Spiceland Friends Meeting serving on various committees. Ted was also a member of South Henry School board, Spiceland Lions Club and Spiceland Volunteer Fire Department. Ted also enjoyed vacationing.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Betty (Renfro) Applegate of Spiceland; two daughters, Judy (Applegate) Lee of Albany, IN and Marilyn (Applegate) Ingle of Spiceland; four grandchildren, Angela (Randy) Speer, Tracy (Michael) Woolard, Gregory Lee and Jeffrey (Jessica) Lee ; four great grandchildren; one sister, Esther Applegate of Spiceland.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Applegate; sister, Mary Margaret Applegate Clay.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Spiceland Friends Meeting with David Brock and Cathy Harris officiating. Friends may call from 9-11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the church. Burial will be in Circle Grove Cemetery.
