Philip Wickliff

Philip P. Wickliff, 69, of Springport, passed away Saturday, August 04, 2012 at his residence following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 6, 1943 in New Castle, a son of the late William E. and Mary Elizabeth (Bunch) Wickliff.

A 1961 graduate of Straughn High School, Phil retired from Ameritech (now AT&T) as a cable repairman. He also was co-owner of Reliable D/C Power Solutions Inc. Phil served in the U.S. Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Deeply involved in the Masons, Phil was an honorary member of 12 Masonic Lodges, was two-time past Master, once at Daleville Lodge #730 and once at New Castle Lodge #91. He was a member of the Redman Association in Richmond, received the Ultimate Ritualist Award from the Grand Lodge of Indiana, received the Extra Mile Award at New Castle Lodge, and also founded a veteran’s breakfast at the New Castle Masonic Lodge, which has expanded throughout the state, and he also honored the widows and ladies of the Masonic Lodge on many occasions. He was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Among his favorite hobbies were fishing, gardening, woodworking and camping.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 46 years, Casteen (Goad) Wickliff of Springport; two sons, Jeff Wickliff of Greenfield and Richard (wife, Diane) Wickliff of Fishers; two daughters, Christine Wickliff of Greenfield and Laura (husband, Gary) Bray of Mooreland; sisters, Wilma (husband, Harold) Mitchell of New Castle, Mary Miller of New Lisbon, Nancy Compton of North Carolina; brother, Noble (wife, Pat) Wickliff of North Carolina; nephew, Bill McCormick of Springport; father-in-law, Dillard Goad of TN. Also, eight grandchildren, Billy Rather, Branden Wickliff, Natasha Holley, Kristen Bray, Andrea Wickliff, Zachary Bray, Connor Wickliff and Hannah Wickliff; six great grandchildren, Caeden, Jailyn, Anthony, Nathan, Joshua, and Ryan. Also, sisters-in-law, Virgie Bach and Violet Goad, both of New Castle, and Jeani Hall of TN several nieces, nephews, and cousins, friends and Masonic brothers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Virginia Wickliff, Betsy Van Duren, and June Stanley; three brothers, Billy Jr., Byron, and David Wickliff; mother-in-law, Marie Lawson Goad; grandson, Kyle Wickliff; brothers-in-law, Jerry Bach and Billy Joe Goad; Robert Miller and Walter Stanley.

Services will be at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with the Rev. Charles Dugger officiating. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service, where Masonic Services will be conducted. Private burial will be on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Mt. Summit Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted.
