Phillip Selke

Philip C. Selke, 54, formerly of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at I U Medical Center following an extended illness. He was born December 12, 1954 in New Castle, IN the son of Samuel and Dolores (Thompson) Selke. Phil had moved to Florida last year, but returned to live with his sister Connie in Nashville, IN while waiting for a liver transplant.

A 1972 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School, he played football on a scholarship at Indiana State University and also played football at Ball State University. Philip was a veteran of the US Navy. He had been employed in sales in many different capacities including Heilig-Meyer, 7-UP and Oliver Family Motors. He was a member of the Moose Family Center where he had served as governor, trustee, prelate and other offices. He was an avid sports fan especially the Colts. He also loved music and NASCAR racing.

Philip is survived by his wife: Kay A. Selke of Citrus Springs, FL; daughters: Cortney Selke and her son, Memphis Smith of New Castle; Staci (fiance: Adam) Bass and their daughter, Addyson Bass of New Castle; sons: Justin and Erik Selke both of Citrus Springs, FL, and formerly of New Castle; two sisters: Sally (husband: Steve) Hale of New Castle; Connie (husband: Steve) Paul of Nashville, IN; several nieces and nephews; mother and father-in-law: Richard and Bess Curtiss of Citrus Springs, FL; brothers-in-law:Dale Curtiss and family of FL and Gary Curtiss and family of CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Dolores Selke, and a brother, Brad Selke.

Services will be at 1:00 PM Monday, December 14, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 PM on Sunday, December 13, 2009. Memorial contributions may be made to the Philip C. Selke Memorial Fund c/o Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service 3406 S Memorial Drive, New Castle, IN 47632. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
