Phyllis Ann Harris, 82, died peacefully with her family by her side on July 24, 2024. Phyllis was born on December 24, 1941, to Jesse James Riddle and Mada Jewell Riddle in Albany, KY. She grew up in and around Knightstown with her brothers, Max and Lewis, and sister, Avis.
Phyllis was a graduate of the Class of 1960 from Knightstown High School. She retired from the ISSCH after 30+ years of service to the State of Indiana.
Phyllis loved her family, and she loved hosting family dinner and holidays at her house. No matter the size of her house or how many people showed up, she always managed to squeeze everyone into a house filled with love and laughter and, of course, good food. She always had a table full of food and heart full of love. Everyone loved her sugar cream pie and her famous, homemade pumpkin rolls.
True to the generation of the children of the Great Depression, Phyllis was a collector of many things, including Home Interiors, knick knacks, clothing, shoes, and so much more. Everything was a treasure that had its own box, place, and label. She was always planning a garage sale that would never happen. Her family would laugh knowing that her plans were more about the fun of planning them with her granddaughter, Lacey, than letting go of anything.
Phyllis was the ultimate conversationalist. She could hold a phone conversation for hours on end. When you saw her name ring through, you knew it was time to sit down and settle in for the exchange. She truly had the gift of gab.
Phyllis had a strong, Christian faith and loved Southern gospel music. She and her sister, Avis, along with family and friends spent years traveling to see the Gaither family and others in concerts. Phyllis’ social calendar was always full, whether she was playing with her grandchildren, making memories with her family, or sharing laughter and love with her countless, special friends.
Phyllis is survived by her sons, Eric and Dallas and daughter in law, Debbie; grandchildren, Lacey, Bobbie (Sarah), Brady (Cora), Victoria (Anthony), Jay, and Kaunner (Alexis); great-grandchildren Eli, Brantley, Beau, Camden, Brynlee, and Alivia; her only surviving sibling, sister, Avis and sister in law, Judy; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Phyllis is also survived by a great many friends, turned family, over the years.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her brothers, James, Max, and Lewis.
Services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, July 29, 2024, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Reverend Gene Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
